The Meditative Life is that whereby the soul abides in union with God; and the practice of Meditation upon the same subjects daily is one great means of binding together those who are hold back by the necessities of external society from much personal fellowship. Even the pursuit of some accidental object of natural science forms a link between many who have never met, although the object contemplated has no power of giving any life to the student. Much more does the contemplation of Divine Truth. For Divine Truth is not merely Truth which lives, but the Living Truth gives Life to those who dwell upon its contemplation. A common Faith in the Living God is therefore a common Life; and the exercise of such Faith, according to common modes of worship, is a development of that Life in common, according to the fulness of Divine Love.
