The orator and the poet, - though they have brought to their theme the power of a lofty eloquence, and the sweet charm of numbers, can scarcely be said to have heightened the sublimity, or to have deepened the pathos, of that simple, yet wondrous tale. Where, indeed, can the New-Englander go, and not find some association, that recalls the deeds and virtues of his ancestors? Where is the ocean-isle - where that nook of earth, so remote, or so secluded, that the story has not reached it? The assembly, to which, and in behalf of which, I speak, is made up, to a great extent, by natives of New-England.
