Excerpt from Manual of the Rhode Island Society: Of the Sons of the American Revolution; Organized February 1, 1890 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: Section 1. W. Maxwell Greene, William W. Hoppin, William Goddard, Albert Gallatin Barton, E. Benjamin Andrews, Daniel B. Pond, and their associates and successors, are hereby made a corporation by the name of Rhode Island Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, for the purpose of cherishing and maintaining the Institutions of American freedom, and perpetuating the spirit and memory of the deeds of the patriots who achieved American independence, with all the powers and privileges, and subject to all the duties and liabilities, set forth in Chapter 152 of the Public Statutes, and in any acts in amendment thereof or in addition thereto. Sec. 2. Said corporation may take, hold, transmit and convey real and personal estate to an amount not exceeding twenty-five thousand dollars. Sec. 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
