Zimmerman and Others The Extension Division of the University of Wisconsin has collected material on a number of subjects suitable for public debates and discussions. The purpose is to loan this material to any literary or debating organization of Wisconsin, upon request made to the department. So many requests for assistance have come, however, that it has been thought wise to try the experiment of reprinting in a small volume, portions of the best articles which have been found upon the topics of most immediate interest. In this way only can the demand for material be met. The subject which has been selected for the first booklet is Government Insurance of Bank Deposits, as this is one of the important issues in the campaign of 1908. In almost every instance, the articles, or portions of articles, included in this book, are reprinted with the express permission of the author. In the case of several of the newspaper articles, it has not been thought necessary to secure such permission. The articles are grouped under three heads: I, General Conditions and Statistics; II, Arguments on the Affirmative; III, Arguments on the Negative. Resolved, That Bank deposits should be guaranteed by the government; funds to be raised by taxing the banks on their deposits.
