At any rate, the story of her tragic fate naturally suggests the similar condition to which the cause of poetry has been reduced in these modern times, when the whilom "Heavenly Muse" is considered as an antiquated myth - a mistress some what passe - and her devotees are looked upon as guilty of Impertinence, or suffering from weakness.
