Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from A Midsummer Madness Mr. Francis Medhurst had enjoyed so few chances of bettering his fortunes that when an opportunity for some little change of scene and freedom of action came knocking at his door he was half inclined to find something intrusive and impertinent in the summons. Mr. Hill, editor of the "Forum," a New York daily paper to which the young man was attached in a very subordinate capacity, sent for him, saying that, having been asked to recommend a secretary for a gentleman by the name of Haxtoun, living on the Delaware, he had named him, Medhurst. Good abilities, classical acquirements, a practical knowledge of German and habits of systematic energy, were the requirements. If found qualified in these respects the young fellow was to take up his residence with his patron, and assist to the utmost of his ability in preparing a work for the press.
