Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Golden Treasury of Magazine Verse The selections in this book are gathered from American magazines, during the period from 1905 to 1917, which embrace the editor´s studies and summaries of contemporary poetry that have appeared in the Boston Evening Transcript. The collection thus in part antedates the present vogue in poetry, while representing the various qualities and schools of the poetic revival in its progress. The magazines, it is clearly wished to be understood, have been the source from which the material is taken. Some of the poems have gone into the authors´ books, but a good many remain buried in the files of the various magazines - an ill-deserved fate. It may not seem inappropriate, levying as the editor has upon the late Francis Palgrave´s fortunately descriptive title for his anthologies of English songs and lyrics, to call this collection, a "golden treasury" of magazine verse. If the editor were to make an apology for the omission of any poem that happens to be a favorite with the reader, he would have to make many such to many readers. He can only plead that, tastes and opinions are so various and opposite, were the reader or critic turned editor, he would needs be apologetic, if it were the custom of editors to be so, which it is not. What an editor includes, granting the reader the full exercise of his own opinion, he certainly will not break faith with.
