Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Memoirs of the Life and Times of Sir Christopher Hatton, K. G : Vice-Chamberlain and Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth, Including His Correspondence With the Queen and Other Distinguished Persons Of Sir Christopher Hatton,. Gentleman Pensioner, Captain of the Guard, Vice-Chamberlain, and Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth, and her distinguished personal Favourite, less was known than of almost any other Statesman of that period. This neglect of a very remarkable person probably arose from the notion that he was a mere Courtier, whose life presented no incidents to instruct, and few to amuse mankind. Though noticed by Naunton, Fuller, Lloyd, and Lodge, as well as in all general Biographical Collections, no attempt was made to give a detailed account of Hatton´s career, until Lord Campbell wrote a Memoir of him in "The Lives of the Lord Chancellors and Keepers of the Great Seal of England." Since the appearance of that work, the transcript of a manuscript, entitled "Booke of Letters receaved by Sir Christopher Hatton, Vice-Chamberlayne to the Quene´s Majestie, from sundry parsons, and procured by him to be written in this same Booke," was placed in the Editor´s hands, for the purpose of being printed with the usual illustrative Notes.
