C., in the Summer of 1908, I put into the preamble of Chapter IX - entitled, "Roosevelt and the Mothers" - an old magazine story written by Lincoln Steffins in 1899, I little dreamed that that story - rescued from the dust of thirteen years, and carrying Colonel Roosevelt´s remark when embarking from Cuba, that he "felt like a bull moose," - would be the innocent means four years later, of affixing a picturesque pseudonym to a new political party devoted to the public good.
