Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Goethe´s Hermann and Dorothea The "Hermann and Dorothea" of Goëthe is considered by some critics to be the composition in which the poet reached his highest success. Simple in its plot and incidents, it is so idealized that many regard it as the perfection of artistic work. Hermann, the son of a well-to-do landlord of a German hostelry, is sent by his father and mother to dispense old linen and something to eat and drink among the fugitives who are fleeing from the further side of the Rhine. The young man is described as a strong, handsome, finely-built youth, possessed of more strength than brains, and whose simple, honest, gentle nature reminds one somewhat of the Jan of Lorna Doone. It is a source of regret to his father that his son has never cared to mix more with other people, and has avoided the society of young maidens, as he is anxious to see him kneel at the altar with a bride. Hermann, returning from his mission, enters the room where his father and mother, together with the village pastor and druggist, have been discussing affairs over a bottle of fine old Eighty-three. There is a change in his manner which is quickly noted by the minister, who remarks upon his joyous and merry appearance.
