Excerpt from Report of the Committee of Arrangements of the Common Council of the City of New York, for the Funeral Obsequies in Memory of William H. Harrison: Late President of the United States; With an Oration Immediately after their appointment, your Committee were waited upon by a Committee of the Common Council of the City of Brooklyn, consisting of Aldermen March, Oakley, Hart, Cross, and Burbank, who expressed a desire to unite with your Committee, on behalf of the City of Brooklyn, in the proposed arrangements; to which desire your Committee readily and cheerfully assented. They then, in conjunction with the Committee of the Common Council of the City of Brooklyn, proceeded to consider the subject referred to them, and on the 6th of April, instant, they unanimously adopted the following resolutions, which were proposed by Alderman Benson, and directed them to be published in the papers of the day: Whereas, it is announced that the funeral of the late President of the United States will take place on Wednesday the 7th instant, at 12 o´clock, noon, it is Resolved, By the Joint Committees of the Common Councils of the Cities of New York and Brooklyn, that our fellow citizens of the said cities are requested to close their stores and places of business to-morrow, from the hour of twelve at noon until sunset, and also all places of public amusements in the respective cities to-morrow evening.
