Excerpt from Proceedings of the American Association of Museums: Records of the Seventh Annual Meeting Held in New York City, June 4-7, 1912 The Association assembled in the American Museum of Natural History at 9 a.m. for registration and inspection of the Museum. At 10 o´clock the opening session was called to order by President Edward S. Morse. The Chair introduced Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn, president of the American Museum of Natural History, who delivered the address of welcome as follows: Dr. Osborn. - "Mr. President and Members of the American Association of Museums: It is a pleasure to welcome this Association on behalf of the trustees of the American Museum and the municipality of the City of New York, as this institution represents a combination of public and private endeavor. It occurred to me that, since the relation between museums and municipalities is a question which has arisen in one American city after another, I might say a few words of interest to you on that subject.
