Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from An Hour With Charlotte Bronté: Or, Flowers From a Yorkshire Moor The story of Charlotte Bronté´s life is one of the most fascinating in our language. The English reading world is acquainted with her novels, and many have enjoyed "Jane Eyre" as much perhaps as did a mother of several grown-up daughters who took the book from one of them with a reproof for reading a novel - something she had never done, and who was discovered in the night poring over it. She had opened it to see what it was, and had remained up all night to settle the question for herself. The author of this novel was a mere reed, physically - a woman frail yet strong, spiritual yet still indomitable. Few if any stronger women have possessed her power of endurance; her patient inflexibility. She had a rare and an unusual development, and her domestic life was one of the most singular ever known. She was born at Thornton, in Yorkshire, England, the 21st day of April, 1816, and was the third of six children. Her father, Patrick Bronté, was an Episcopal clergyman, who for more than forty years was settled at Haworth, in Yorkshire.
