Excerpt from A History of the Game Birds, Wild-Fowl and Shore Birds: Of Massachusetts and Adjacent States A Resolve To Provide For The Preparation And Printing Of A Special Report On The Game Birds Of The Commonwealth. Resolved, That there be allowed and paid out of the treasury of the commonwealth a sum not exceeding four thousand dollars for preparing and printing, under the direction of the state board of agriculture, in an edition of five thousand copies, a special report on the game birds of the commonwealth economically considered, to include the facts already ascertained by the state ornithologist, relating to their history, value and the necessity for their protection, to be distributed as follows: - Two copies to each free public library in the commonwealth; two copies to each high school, and two copies to such schools in towns which have no high school as the school committee may designate; one copy to the library of congress and one copy to each state or territorial library in the United States; ten copies to the state library; one copy to the governor; one copy to the lieutenant governor and each member of the council; one copy to the secretary of the commonwealth; one copy to the treasurer and receiver general; one copy to the auditor of the commonwealth; one copy to the attorney-general; one copy to each member of the present general court applying for the same; one copy to each elective officer of the present general court; one copy to each member of the state board of agriculture; five copies to the secretary of the state board of agriculture; and four hundred and fifty copies to the state ornithologist for distribution to those who have assisted by contributing material for the report; the remaining copies to be sold by the secretary of the state board of agriculture at a price not less than the cost thereof. Additional copies may be printed for sale at the discretion of the secretary of the state board of agriculture, the expense thereof to be paid from the receipts of such sales.
