Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Memoirs of the Life and Gospel Labours of Stephen Grellet In the perusal of the biography of Stephen Grellet, the reader can hardly have failed to observe, to how large an extent his native country, and other parts of continental Europe, were the scene of his Christian interest and loving labours: in connection with this view, the desire has often been expressed that this valuable work should be made accessible to the inhabitants of France in the form of a good translation. The Memoir itself, originally in two volumes, appeared to be too diffuse for the purpose; but it was thought that, by careful abridgment, the spirit and identity of the original might be retained: so that, while acceptable to the English reader, it might serve as a basis for the desired translation. The subject was laid before our friend Benjamin Seebohm, who entered into the proposal and fully approved of the publication of such an abridged edition; but as the state of his health precluded his giving attention to it himself, he cordially encouraged Robert and Christine Alsop to undertake it. We trust that the single volume now presented to the public will be found to include all the most interesting portions, and will be perused with pleasure and profit by many who may not be able to obtain the larger work. The translation has been confided to G. de Felice, of Montauban, an eminent Protestant writer, who has heartily devoted himself to the labour; and ere long we hope that this valuable piece of Christian biography may have a wide circulation on the Continent, before the personal remembrance of this devoted servant of the Lord shall have entirely passed away.
