D. 1886 In the following pages I have endeavoured to give, from the most reliable and authentic sources, a slight sketch of a Diocese, many Prelates of which have occupied prominent places in the history of the Irish Church. Whilst it has been my desire to place in the hands of Churchmen especially a Diocesan History, it is hoped it may not be altogether devoid of interest to the general reader. As each of the four Dioceses, viz. Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, has its own distinct history, I have considered them separately, for it was not till the year 1834, by the Church Temporalities Act, that they became a united Diocese.
