I now venture to depict local memories of contemporary Spanish teachers, confessors, and martyrs, who caught more or less of Protestant inspiration at that critical age in the history of Europe. Until lately, Dr. M´Crie´s ´Reformation in Spain´ was the principal English authority on the subject; but investigations since his time, carried on by sympathetic scholars in Spain, in our own country, and especially in Germany, particularly by Dr. Boehmer, have added much to our stock of information.
