The second commission noted by Bain (No. 65 on file C81/521) empowers the persons named in the first commission of the same date (No. 58 on the file) to treat with the Lord of the Isles, Earl of Ross, his kinsmen and councillors concerning what should be agreed with Donald Gorne respecting the alliance to be made between the king and the earl. November 4 Debenture testifying that Sir Gilbert Pecche was owed £700 18s 8d for arrears of his own wages and the wages of those staying with him to garrison the castles of Aberdeen and Aboyne and the adjacent parts from 8 July 1307 to 16 August 1308, by an account made with him before Eustace de Codesbeche, chamberlain of Scotland. Berwick on Tweed. [E43/55] Endorsed with details of 12 payments made in respect of these arrears between 28 August 1310 and 8 June 1314. The tag for the chamberlain´s seal bears a note that a final payment was made on 14 November 1314 to discharge this account. Cf. p.222, No. 519].
