Excerpt from Memorial Addresses on the Life and Character of Monroe L. Hayward (Late a Senator From Nebraska): Delivered in the Senate and House of Representatives, Fifty-Sixth Congress, First Session Mr. Thurston. Mr. President, it becomes my painful duty to announce that the Hon. Monroe L. Hayward, Senator-elect from the State of Nebraska for the term commencing March 4, 1899, departed this life at 6 o´clock and 20 minutes this morning, at his home in Nebraska City. On some future and fit occasion it is my purpose to present and ask consideration by the Senate of appropriate memo rial resolutions. At the present time I offer the resolutions which I send to the desk, and ask their immediate consideration. The President pro tempore. The resolutions offered by the Senator from Nebraska will be read. The Secretary read the resolutions, as follows: Resolved, That the Senate has heard with deep regret and profound sorrow of the death of Hon. Monroe L. Hayward, lately elected Senator from the State of Nebraska. Resolved, That the Secretary communicate a copy of these resolutions to the House of Representatives. Resolved, That as a further mark of respect to the memory of the deceased, the Senate do now adjourn. The President pro tempore. The question is on agreeing to the resolutions.
