Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Sermon Preached Before the Society: Corresponding With the Incorporated Society in Dublin, for Promoting English Protestant Working-Schools in Ireland, at Their General Meeting in the Parish-Church of St. Mary Le Bow, on Wednesday, April 30, 1755 Prejudices, and dispersed, with all the Disgrace of Bondage, amongst a People of whose Country, whose Polity, and whose Religion, they had a sovereign Contempt. Add to this, that some false Prophets, in order to sooth them under their Affliction, had given them Assurances of a speedy Return; which made them less anxious about reconciling their Condition, and rendering it less irksome to their Minds. On this Account the holy Prophet, pitying the melancholy State of his Countrymen, sends this seasonable Instruction, and, under the Authority of Him, who, in the midst of Judgment always remembers Mercy, points out to them the true Method how they might alleviate their Misfortunes, and render their Captivity, by degrees, less painful to them. The Almighty designed this Instance of his Indignation against them to be felt, and acknowledged as a just Punishment due to their Obstinacy; but he was willing they should turn this Calamity to their own Good, as well as to the Service of those into whose Hands they were delivered up. Like these good Figs, faith the Lord God of Israel, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this Place into the Land of the Chaldeans for their good. For I will set mine Eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again, and I will build them, and not pull them down, Jer. xxiv. 5, 6.
