Bonnett was intent upon repairing winter ravages, laid bare by spring temperature; and I, armed (literally) with a mass of pamphlets and reference books, upon complying with the publishers request for an Introduction. "It´s a bad business," said Bonnett, referring to the mob´s defiance of law. "Shocking," I agreed. "And yet it is an ill wind that blows no good," remarked Bonnett reflectively. "Now all English-Canadians will be at last united against the French. Those who have attempted to defend them will surely be convinced that they were in the wrong."
