Excerpt from The Celebration of the Quarter-Millennial Anniversary of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of the City of New York: November 21st, 1878 At a meeting of the Consistory of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of the City of New York, held September 5th, 1878, the Rev. Dr. Chambers called attention to the fact, (of which he said that he had recently been reminded by the Rev. Dr. Corwin, of Millstone, N. J.), that the present year was the 250th since the organization of this church. The evidence of the fact is contained in the second volume of the "Documents relating to the Colonial History of the State of New York," published some years ago by order of the Legislature, The appendix to this volume gives at length a letter describing the first visit of an ordained minister to the Island of Manhattan. The letter was first printed about twenty years ago in the Kerk-historisch Archief, a periodical issued in Amsterdam, and in the year 1858 was translated and published in this country by the Hon.
