Although the aforesaid essays were collected and published by the Dr. in one volume 8vo, and have a general reference to the same object, they were originally composed and printed at different times, and are still distinguished by different titles. The first essay is entitled "the substance or matter of the gospel." The second, is entitled "the form of the gospel - an inquiry whether it be a new law with commands, threatenings and conditions in it? and whether the duties of the gospel are our justifying righteousness?" - "a reconciling discourse."
