Excerpt from A Chain of Facts in the Reign of King James the Second: With a Particular Account of His Design (in Conjunction With Lewis the Xivth of France) To Establish a Popish Successor to the Throne of England The cruel Progress that the sworn Enemies to all Protestant States have lately made, in subduing the strong Frontier Towns of our near Neighbours and natural Allies; and the continued Menaces of another Attempt to support the Papists and Jacobites favourite Adventurer, have encouraged those deluded and bigotted People, to express their Pleasure in their Neighbours Misfortunes, in a Manner that but too plainly proves their Readiness to grasp at every Opportunity to foment the Spirit of Disaffection in those whom they can prevail upon to adhere in any Degree to their never to be parted with Notions of indefeasible Hereditary Right, of which they pretend to make a Point of Conscience, and for that Reason are so unwarrantly bold, in declaring for the Person to whom they pay Allegiance, affirming, and attempting to prove, their Assertions from the Laws and Records of this Kingdom, and by that Means, seduce too many to their Faith, and, consequently, incline them to Practices suitable to such an Opinion.
