Not for many a year will it be possible for the full story of Mr. Gladstone´s public life to be told. By that time, the last of the generations which have been swayed by his leadership, and influenced by his presence, will have passed away; and, although no such other commanding personality may have arisen to obscure his memory, the detailed relation will come too late to be appreciated by the majority of those to whom he has acted as an inspiration, and by whom he has been accepted as a guide.
