Four kinds of metaphors are distinguished by him, namely, those in which the transference is made (1) from the genus to the species, (2) from the species to the genus, (3) from species to species, and (4) according to the analogous (Katà tò àva¿oyov). So far as the first three kinds are concerned the classification is sufficiently simple. The nature of the last is not so clear.
