Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Letters From John Pintard to His Daughter, Eliza Noel Pintard Davidson, Vol. 4 of 4: 1816-1833 Monday 2d Jan 1832. A beautiful day & most elegant sleighing... In the morn I went to Church with yr brother & sister. At 3 in the aft.noon I attended as Pallbearer the funeral of M. David Delapierre who died on 30th Dec. AE 81. He has been for many years, until superannuated, the Clerk of my French Church Du St Esprit, was an excellent pious man, & out of respect I accepted the invitation. A close sleigh was sent for me, but the distance from his dwelling to St John´s Cemetery, 2 miles made it very tedious late before I got home. Thus I have commenced the New Year by performing a solemn duty. At 2 we sat down to a real old time family dinner. Roast Turkey, large green Ham sliced & broiled, scalloped Oysters, Cranbery sauce, vegetables & celery, abundant for all to partake. Dear grandma came down for the first time. She looked better, in my eye, than she had done for a long time. Black becomes her, as she indeed becomes every colour that she pleases to wear... This morning Sister has prepared her elegant display for the reception of visiting friends. She will sit with Mother in her spruce chamber, leaving me master of ceremonies. Tuesday [January] 3d... Mother & Sister staid upstairs & any particular acquaintances were ushered up to see them. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
