Thus, if Hume or Blanco White had come, at last, into a settled belief in what is commonly called orthodox or evangelical truth, any man, who understands at all the philosophy of opinions, will see that he would have held all his points or articles of belief under forms and relations that had some reference, more or less palpable, to his own spiritual history, and the struggles through which he had passed.
