Excerpt from The Mormon Battalion and Its Monument: A Compilation of Data for Sculptors and Architects Be if enacted by the Legislature of the State of Utah: Section 1. Appointment of Commission to Select Site and Design. Report. The Governor is hereby authorized to appoint a committee of seven resident citizens of the State, who shall serve without pay. whose duty it shall be to select a proper site upon the Capitol grounds and procure a suitable design for a monument to commemorate the important contribution made to the early settlement and development of the State of Utah, and the western portion of this country by the Mormon Battalion; and to report their acts and recommendations to the twelfth session of the Legislature of the State. Section 2. Appropriation. How Expended. There is hereby appropriated the sum of One Thousand Dollars out of any moneys not otherwise appropriated, to be expended, or so much thereof as may be necessary, under the direction of said committee, for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of Section 1 of this Act.
