Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Society of Tammany; Columbian Order: Celebration at Tammany Hall, on Friday, July 4th, 1862, Including the Poem, by Henry Morford, the Oration, by Hon. Charles P. Daly, Pub, by Order of the Society In response to this call, the members of the Society and their friends, to the number of two thousand, assembled in the "Grand Council Chamber" which was superbly decorated with the flags of all nations. A splendid transparency of General Jackson was draped in the national colors; on the sides of the room were conspicuously displayed the banners of the Society, and the insignia of the thirteen original States; and the portraits of Washington, Lafayette, Jefferson, Polk, Clay, and Webster, occupied prominent positions on the walls of the old Wigwam. The Sachems and Officers of the Society, with their distinguished guests, having taken their places on the platform, the band performed a selection of national airs, after which the large assemblage was called to order by the Grand Sachem, who made the following introductory remarks: Address Of Hon. Nelson J. Waterbury. Brothers and Friends: - In accordance with immemorial usage and with the constitution of the Tammany Society, the doors of the great Wigwam are this day thrown open to all the friends of liberty who may desire to participate with us in the celebration of the anniversary of our National Independence. [cheers] The Tammany Society and the Society of the Cincinnati each took root in the pure soil of the revolutionary era, and they are the only organizations formed at that early period which have remained until the present time. Each has regularly commemorated the return of this sacred day. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
