Three days before the morning I am going to speak of, the warm weather suddenly changed to a biting cold; it had gone on increasing, and was now as freezing as January. It is not often you see ice mingling with the dead leaves of autumn. Both the ice and the leaves have to do with the thing that happened; and I think you often find that if the weather is very unusually out of the common, we get something by which to remember it.
