Excerpt from Minutes of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America: From A. D. 1838 to A. D. 1847, Inclusive This volume of the Minutes of the General Assembly is published under the following authorization: A committee was appointed by the General Assembly (Minutes, 1884, p. 121), viz.: "Resolved, That the Stated and Permanent Clerks be a Committee to report to the next General Assembly upon the advisability of reprinting any or all of the Minutes of the General Assembly between the years 1836 and 1869, said Committee to serve without expense to the Assembly." The Committee reported progress (Minutes, 1885, p. 684), recommending, inter alia, "that the expense of this republication be borne by the Board of Publication, and that the number of copies to be issued be left to the judgment of the committee to be appointed to take charge of the matter. "The report was adopted, and the Assembly directed that the Stated and Permanent Clerks be a Committee to have charge of the printing of said Minutes." The Committee was continued (1886, p. 15). The Committee now report that the work is in a state of forwardness to meet the convenience of the Board of Publication. The plan adopted by the Board is to add the Minutes of 1836 and 1837 to the volume already published, 1821-1835, so making complete the Minutes of the Church from 1706 to 1837; the year of the division; and to print in four volumes the Minutes of the O. S. from 1838 to 1869, and in two volumes the Minutes of the N . S. for the same period, so completing the Minutes of the whole Church from 1706 to 1869. These volumes will be of nearly uniform size, containing, with complete indices, about 550 pages each (Minutes of 1887, p. 57).
