This I gladly do not only for the sake of the author, who is a member of this Oratory and my dear friend, but also because the work seems to me an important contribution in the controversy, as it now stands, between the Catholic Church and the Anglican claims. Only I fear lest such interposition on my part as the author wishes, should really be of disservice to his argument, as weakening or confusing its drift. Thus much, however, is what he tells us himself in his opening pages, that, directly and in the first instance, he is writing against what is called the Ritualistic party.
