Knox Before the American Society for Judicial Settlement of International Disputes: Cincinnati, Ohio, November 8, 1911 The arbitration treaties between the United States and Great Britain and the United States and France, recently signed and now before the Senate for its approval, were negotiated with a view to carrying into effect President Taft´s public statement at a banquet of this Society in December, 1910, that he was ready to enter into treaties extending the principle of arbitration so as to include differences between nations, however arising, to the end that war might be eliminated as a means for adjustment of international disagreements.
