Here they find themselves in a very forest of miniature Chinese pagodas, surrounded on all sides by an immense variety of statues, paintings, wood-carved furniture, teak-wood chests, camphor boxes, antique lacquer screens, century-old temple gongs, artistically mounted, and a profusion of wood-carvings that for delicacy of touch and microscopic detail, have no rival in the entire Exposition. "What is this?" the visitor asks and on being informed that it is an exhibit sent to the Exposition by the orphans of Zi-ka-wei, his wonder grows and further information is sought concerning the orphans and the training which they receive under the direction of the Jesuit Missionaries. This little pamphlet, the first of a series of similar sketches, has been prepared to supply the often-sought-for information.
