The present little volume is an attempt to meet this need. The matters treated are too extensive to be dealt with completely, save in a work of many volumes. The attempt now made is to give a concise treatment that shall be at once comprehensive and concrete; instead of presenting a logically complete outline, it presents a succession of topics that are typical in their character. The first six chapters establish a point of view, and call attention to recognized principles; the remaining chapters dis cuss selected instances illustrative of these facts and principles.
