Edward E. Hale, offered the following prayer: For this cause we faint not. But though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. For we know if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Now he that hath wrought us for this very thing is God, who also hath given to us the earnest of the Spirit. Even so, Father, Thou art pleased to teach us the lesson of life, even at the moment of death. Thou hast promoted Thy servant to higher service, he that had trained himself for such service here. And now we ask Thee in Thine own holy spirit to quicken our spirits that we may not be afraid of the end; that we may accept in Thine infinite providence what Thou hast prepared for us beyond this line of earthly life; that day by day and hour by hour we may come nearer to Thee; and that we may open our eyes to see that larger and better world, and that wider life for which Thou hast prepared us. Father, we thank Thee for the memories of such a life. We thank Thee for the service that he has rendered to this land.
