Excerpt from Catalogue of the Principal English Books: In Circulation at Mudie´s Select Library; For French, German, Dutch, Italian, Russian, Scandinavian and Spanish Books, See Separate Catalogue Works upon every topic of national importance will be found under an appropriate heading, such for instance as the Arts, Army and Navy, Politics, Economics, Theology, Sociology, Philosophy, Science, Sport, etc., etc. History, Travel and Social Life are grouped under the names of the countries concerned; a very extensive selection of Memoirs, Diaries, etc., of celebrated men and women forms an especial feature in this connection. A Synopsis of the classification and a copious Index have been compiled, so that, by consulting these, readers will without difficulty trace books upon any subject required that are circulated by the Library. The Synopsis and Index occupy the pages immediately following. Division II. of the Catalogue contains works of Fiction, placed first under their titles, followed by an alphabetical list of Authors with the novels they have written; in this section the names and works of the popular novelists of the Victorian and present era are fully represented. Many novels have predominant historical, topographical and psychological interest; to facilitate reference to these a classified selection of Fiction is included, which by a simple arrangement is linked with the more solid works of a similar nature in Division I. For the Juvenile reader a specially selected list of some two thousand books is given at the end of the Catalogue; this selection comprises instructive reading in History, Science, and Morals, suitable for the young, together with Stories arranged under topics to suit boys and girls of all ages.
