Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Bulletin of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Vol. 2: Descriptive Catalogue of the Series of Works Known as the Library of Old Authors The first Bulletin of the Free Library comprised a descriptive catalogue of the writings of Sir Walter Scott. The "Library of Old Authors," which is the subject of this present Bulletin, contains a wealth of information capable of being appreciated by a large number of the general readers of Free Libraries. When the publisher of the "Library of Old Authors" entered upon the publication of the series now described, he was entering upon a comparatively new field. It may be that there are many valuable series of works which would be equally entitled with the present to be descriptively catalogued, but possibly they will not be found to contain such a variety of information from a bibliographical point of view as John Russell Smith´s "Library of Old Authors." The catalogue now issued has been the result of much labour spread over a long period; and as the notes accumulated the writer felt that there was a quantity of material which would probably be of value to librarians and the frequenters of libraries. The writer desires to express his thanks to Mr. Lorin Blodget, Jr., head of the Bindery and Public Documents Department in the Free Library, for his valuable assistance in the preparation of the index.
