Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Calendar State Papers, Relating to Scotland, Vol. 1: Preserved in the State Paper Department of Her Majesty´s Public Record Office; The Scottish Series, of the Reigns of Henry VIII., Edward Vi;, Mary, Elizabeth; 1509-1589 The papers described in this Calendar consist of two parts: the first relating to Scotland, and the second relating to Mary Queen of Scots during her detention and captivity within the realm of England. The first series is one of many collections preserved in the State Paper Office which refer to those foreign countries with which England has at any time held diplomatic relations; consisting of the correspondence between the Sovereigns and rulers of the respective countries; the treaties which were made between them; the communications which emanated from the ministers on either side; the letters of ambassadors, special commissioners, leaders of armies, spies, and other agents, who corresponded with the officers of state on the public affairs of the countries in which they resided or to which they were accredited. The main collection of papers relating to Scotland has always existed in the State Paper Office under the custody of the Secretary of State, but some of the letters of King Henry VIII.´s reign formed part of the Wolsey correspondence, and were originally deposited in the Chapter House, Westminster. The whole series extends over a period of ninety-five years, from the first year of the reign of King Henry VIII. to the death of Queen Elizabeth.
