Some trifling, necessary repairs were going forward, and she had taken on board to do the work a number of civilian "hands"; "dockyard maties," as they call them in the Service. The job was but half finished when a wireless message came through that German ships were out in the North Sea. The Tiger promptly raised steam for 16-20 knots, slipped her cables, and "proceeded as requisite" to join her consorts. It was a very hurried departure; so hurried, in fact, that she had no time to put her "dockyard maties" on shore.
