And thus it happens that nearly all that has hitherto been written about White´s, notwithstanding the prominent and important position among clubs it has always occupied, is contained in a couple of pages of a handbook to London, published nearly half-a-century ago. The approaching bi-centenary of the opening of White´s Chocolate House, which preceded the foundation of the Club itself by a few years only, has been thought an appropriate time to put on record a fuller account of White´s and its traditions.
