Excerpt from The People´s Right Defended: Being an Examination of the Romish Principle of Withholding the Scriptures From the Laity; Together With a Discussion of Some Other Points in the Romish Controversy; To Which Is Appended a Discourse on Transubstatiation Be it remembered, that on the seventeenth day of December, in the fifty-fifth year of the Independence of the United States of America, A.D. 1850, William F. Geddes, of the said district, has deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims as proprietor, in the words following, to wit: "The People´s Right Defended, being an examination of the Romish principle of withholding the Scriptures from the Laity; together with a discussion of some other points in the Romish controversy, by ´Wickliffe.´ ´Search the Scriptures´ John v. 39. To which is appended a Discourse on Transubstantiation, by the Right Rev. John Tillotson, D. D., Lord Archbishop of Canterbury." In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, intituled, "An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of Maps, Charts, and Books, to the Authors and Proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned." And also to the Act, entitled, "An Act supplementary to an Act, entitled ´An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of Maps, Charts, and Books, to the Authors and Proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned, and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching, historical and other prints."
