Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Dr. Pusey´s Eirenicon: Considered in Relation to Catholic Unity; A Letter to the Rev. Father Lockhart of the Institute of Charity If it cannot be said that the interest roused by the remarkable work which suggested this publication has passed away, as indeed is evidenced by the subsequent issue of two supplementary volumes, still less certainly can the subject itself be considered to have lost its pressing and paramount claims on the attention of all religious minds. The position both of Catholics and Anglicans, and their relations to each other, are in some respects different from what they were five years ago, and circumstances, which it would be out of place to enter upon here, may seem for the moment to have widened the gulf between them. But man´s necessity is God´s opportunity, and the very difficulties which look so formidable may eventually become, under His good Providence, the prelude to a better understanding. Meanwhile, nothing has occurred during the last five years, to shake the estimate of facts conveyed in the following pages, while later experience has served very strongly to confirm the inferences deduced from them. Some points might, no doubt, have been differently treated, were the Letter being written now, but the author has seen no ground for abandoning the convictions it expresses; and to remodel it in the light of subsequent events would, in fact, be simply to re-write it.
