Excerpt from Classics of the Bar, Vol. 6: Stories of the World´s Great Legal Trials and a Compilation of Forensic Masterpieces In the January, 1845, issue of The Dew Drop, a temperance periodical published at Taunton, Mass., appeared an article entitled, "A Dream: was it all a dream?" which became the basis for an action for libel brought by William Wilbar against B. W. Williams, editor and publisher, and Messrs. Hack and Bradbury, printers of the paper. Wilbar was a storekeeper, selling groceries, liquors, etc. He contended that by the article he was grossly slandered, and sought damages in the sum of $30,000. The article complained of was as follows: A Dream "Was it all a dream?" As we sat in our room a few days since, thinking what more could be done to advance the cause of temperance in this community, we fell asleep and dreamed the following dream: We were in Rum Hollow, and by some irresistible impulse we were drawn into that house of human slaughter, kept by one Wilbar.
