Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Letters of the Late James Fawcus, M.D: For Private Circulation I did not think to look upon my young brother´s grave, or to tell the story of his life when it was ended. I shall try to convey to his children some idea of their gentle good father, although I know well that I can never picture him to others as he lives in my memory. It was a sunny spring afternoon - April 19, 1833 - when my brother, James Fawcus, was born in Dockwray Square, North Shields. He was the seventh son of our parents, the youngest of their eleven children. He was a lovely child, very fair, with deep blue eyes, and hair of a silvery brightness. A most angelic and sweet expression rested on his fine softly-moulded features. We used to watch, as he lay in his cot, for the smile which always came as soon as he wakened and recognised us. In babyhood, as in after years, he was noted for sweetness of temper. His loving nature was expressed in his outward form and in all his ways. He used to give his little hand so trustingly, and in all his behaviour was charming. I have often asked him for toy or sweetmeat, that I might see the gladness with which he would present them. Obedience, the virtue of childhood, seemed to belong to his nature. He never quarrelled with his brother or playmates, because he was free from selfishness, and ready to oblige and yield.
