Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Essay on the Society of Friends: Being an Inquiry Into the Causes of Their Diminished Influence and Numbers, With Suggestions for a Remedy In presenting this Essay to the public, the writer feels that he is only discharging a debt of gratitude that he owes to the Society of Friends, for the many advantages and privileges which he has derived from its valuable training, church fellowship, and eminently scriptural and spiritual teaching. The offer of the prize was to him nothing more than an incentive, in a definite form, to undertake that which he had long desired to accomplish; and the Essay was written with the intention of bringing it before the public, whether it should gain the prize or not. That he will in some respects be misunderstood - that offence will be given to many - that passages will be found in the work which seem to imply a spirit very different from that which dictated them, the writer is prepared to expect. If, however, the work be viewed as a whole, in the same spirit of candour as that in which it was written, and judged of by its whole scope and tendency, it is hoped that its perusal will prove suggestive to the minds of those earnest well-wishers of the Society who see that something is essentially wrong, and who are sincerely anxious to have the cause discovered, that an efficient remedy may be supplied. The writer´s leaning towards Wesleyanism in some particulars will, doubtless, prejudice some minds. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
