This remark applies to the ministry and laity alike. I know how prone men are to prescribe to ministers a standard of holiness nothing short of perfection. This proceeds, not only from the a caviling spirit, but from a desire to have pastors to whom, in the hour of need, they can say, "Give us of your oil for our lamps are gone out."
