It was the same day that the news arrived of the entry of the Allies into Switzerland and France. One talked, thought, and breathed but of this news. I tried to persuade Madame de Stael to let us remain talking by her fireside, instead of going out in the cold to the play; but she had the Duke of Devonshire´s box, and would take her Swedish aide-de-camp to the theatre. Monday l0th. - Before dinner, Douglas Kinnakd came in, bringing with him Dawson, Lord Cathcart´s aide-decamp, just arrived with the despatches from the headquarters of the Crown Prince. I was very glad to see him. Saturday, l5th. - In the morning went to Mrs. Damer´s to meet the Princess of Wales, who was there for her last sitting for a bust.
