Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from A View of the Money System of England: From the Conquest; With Proposals for Establishing a Secure and Equable Credit Currency About two years ago the Author of these remarks published a little pamphlet, entitled, "No Trust, no Trade." It was soon afterwards out of print, and he was urged to bring out a second edition. But having found from subsequent discussions that information was wanted upon the subject, rather than argument, he has, in the following pages, incorporated the substance of his former pamphlet, in a general View of the History of English Money from the Conquest to the present time, and of its effects at various periods upon the condition of the English people. The historical facts brought forward are generally of such notoriety to the readers of English history, that he has thought it needless to encumber the work with formal references. He has only had to show the order in which certain events succeeded certain changes in the money system. For the records which more immediately relate to money, and which are not so generally known, he would refer to Tindal´s "Notes on Rapin´s History," Leake´s "Historical Account of English Money," and Ruding´s "Annals of the Coinage." To the latter work he feels himself much indebted for a great number of important documents and interesting particulars.
